How to bring travel to your home.

Our Director has shared ways to curate interiors so that you can bring travel and wanderlust into your home...because let’s be honest, we won’t be traveling internationally for a while, and could all do with a bit of inspiration.

Lots of us have had to put our plans on hold, including holidays, trips with loved ones,  and adventures overseas. Maybe you were planning to visit the Greek Islands this winter, or are missing out on that Tropical retreat that you had been looking forward to.

Even if you’re not much of a globe trotter, it’s nice to invite inspiration into your home, and allow yourself to dream about the places you’ve always wanted to visit.

As designers, our work is often inspired by our travels and reflects the beautiful places we’ve visited. We hope that our tips below leave you feeling energized, entertained, and excited about connecting with the rest of the world...we know we sure are.

Art & Prints

One of the easiest and most accessible ways to bring travel to your home is through ART. Hang up some photos of places that inspire you regardless of if you have been there or not.  Transform your sunroom into a beachside oasis where you can enjoy your morning coffee and bliss out ‘by the ocean.’ Here are some of our favorite drone photography prints from Gab Scanu & Salty Wings

If landscape prints aren’t your thing, we recommend purchasing a piece of artwork from an artist who features exotic locations. Finding something that reflects the culture or feeling that reminds you of a special place that has meaning to you can have the same effect.

Decorate your habitat with accessories or artifacts from your dreamt about location. Whether that’s art pieces on your console in your office or something dainty perched on the windowsill in your kitchen- we are all about it!  Usually, the momentums that we bring back with us have the essence or air of that location. They tend to spark a feeling or positive memory. Now is the perfect time to bring them out on display and embrace it! If you’re not quite sure how to approach this, our personal shoppers can find you some special pieces based on your inspirations, or existing pieces that you brought home from your travels to compliment your space.

International Cuisine

Practice your culinary skills and try out a new recipe from a country you miss or plan on visiting in the future!! Be authentic with it, and invest in some proper crockery and cutlery to make it feel more real. If it’s France you’re crushing on, buy a bottle of French champagne, with some beautiful coupettes, and enjoy some cheese and french bread. Pop on a playlist, dress your table accordingly, and voila! Sounds like the perfect date night to us!

Light Reading

Buy some luscious coffee table books! Whether they are informative, or simply visual- put it somewhere for you to enjoy so you can flick through it as you sip your sangria, or whatever it is that tickles your fancy!

Scent

One of my personal life hacks that never lets me down! Whenever I go on a holiday I purchase new perfume to take home with me. When I need a pick me up, or want to be taken back to that destination, I use it. It evokes emotions, memories, and inspiration for me.  Memory scent is so powerful and can remind us that Interior Design is not just a visual order of things.

A designed space should interact with you, igniting all of your 5 senses. If you have a similar tradition with your travels, indulge! Maybe candles, incense, wines, or spices are your thing. Regardless, bring them out!
